The BahaDU List
- Live in the Moment
After spending several summer weekends piling the family in the car for several college tours, my son Nick asked if we could visit the University of Dayton, a last-minute addition.
Since he had done the research on their website, he was just looking to do a quick visit and get a feel for the campus. Of course, I said yes and was actually excited about all the great conversations I just knew we were going to have and all the wisdom and life lessons I would be able to share.
Unfortunately, 10 minutes into the drive, Nick was asleep and I was left with my library of self-help podcasts.
Nearly 2 hours into our trip, Nick awoke and immediately announced that what this road trip needed were “some tunes”. And so, after shuffling through his play list, he looked at me and said, “this one is for you Mom.”
It was Your Smiling Face, by James Taylor and we both belted out every word at the top of our lungs. For the next 2 hours we sang Carol King, Billy Joel, Chicago. Earth Wind and Fire (I guess my 70s and 80s music selections had rubbed off on him).
It was an awesome trip and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face or the tears running down my cheek.
Life Lesson #317 – Sometimes you just have to go with the flow because living in the moment courtesy of Sweet Baby James was so much better than what I had planned. And somehow I just know that Nick would agree.
